The crucial challenge, humans face at present is to find an alternative source of energy rather than rely on fossil fuels, due to the limited availability and ill effects it impinges upon planet earth.Innovative ideas struck human brains and end up in new inventions.One such marvel is

MARS – Magenn Air Rotor System.

Magenn Power’s MARS is a Wind Power Anywhere solution with distinct advantages over existing Conventional Wind Turbines and Diesel Generating Systems.

MARS is a lighter-than-air tethered wind turbine that rotates about a horizontal axis in response to wind, generating electrical energy.

This electrical energy is transferred down the 1000-foot tether for immediate use, or to a set of batteries for later use, or to the power grid. Helium sustains MARS and allows it to ascend to a higher altitude than traditional wind turbines. MARS captures the energy available in the 600 to 1000-foot low level and nocturnal jet streams that exist almost everywhere. MARS rotation also generates the “Magnus effect” which provides additional lift, keeps the MARS stabilized, and positions it within a very controlled and restricted location.

Mars Technology

All conventional wind generators use bladed two-dimensional disk-like structures and rigid towers. The Magenn Power Air Rotor system is a closed three-dimensional structure (cylinder). It offers high torque, low starting speeds, and superior overall efficiency thanks to its ability to deploy higher. The closed structure allows Magenn Power to produce wind rotors from very small to very large sizes at a fraction of the cost of current wind generators.

The distinct advantages of the Magenn Air Rotor System design are as follows:

• Magenn Air Rotor System is less expensive per unit of actual electrical energy output than competing wind power systems.
• Magenn Power Air Rotor System will deliver time-averaged output much closer to its rated capacity than the capacity factor typical with conventional designs. Magenn efficiency will be 40 to 50 percent. This is hugely important, since doubling capacity factor cuts the cost of each delivered watt by half.
• Wind farms can be placed closer to demand centers, reducing transmission line costs and transmission line loses.
• Conventional wind generators are only operable in wind speeds between 3 meters/sec and 28 meters/sec. Magenn Air Rotors are operable between 1 meter/sec and in excess of 28 meters/sec.
• Magenn Air Rotors can be raised to higher altitudes, thus capitalizing on higher winds aloft. Altitudes from 400-ft to 1,000-ft above ground level are possible, without having to build an expensive tower, or use a crane to perform maintenance.
• Magenn Air Rotors are mobile and can be easily moved to different locations to correspond to changing wind patterns. Mobility is also useful in emergency deployment and disaster relief situations.

Radiation Effects on Humans

Recently the whole world got stunned on the nature’s fury and subsequent disaster with the triple blow of earth quake, Tsunami and Nuclear radiation threat happened on Japan.In spite of the heavy losses of human lives and property, the horror part is yet to conclude.The increasing levels of radiations on environment and humans pose an acute danger.

The aim of this article, is to explain the ill effects of nuclear radiation on the human body.

Certain parts of our body are very vulnerable to the exposure of nuclear radiation.There are various factors influencing the health conditions of humans exposed to radiation, such as

• The amount of dosage.
• Type of Radiation and its ability to damage human tissues.
• Which human organ got affected.

The radiation occurs when unstable nuclei of atoms decay and release particles. When human body is exposed to these particles, the energy gets absorbed on cells, causing biological damages. The extend of damage depends upon how much of radiation is absorbed. The unit used to measure radiation dosage is the rem, which stands for roentgen equivalent in man.

The extend of damage based on rem levels on different organs are listed below.

Even long after the radiation has subsided, the radiation damages continue to persist and cause physical problems.

Increased levels of Blood disorders,Malignant Tumors, Keloids – scar tissue covering the healed burns, swell and grow abnormally,cataracts on humans are noticed from the past experiences around the world.

In spite of all these ill effects, human race is not ready to stop the usage of nuclear power plants, due to the fact that the energy obtained from nuclear process under controlled operation is immense and relatively cleaner in terms of sustainability related issues.

Now it is high time to invest on innovative technologies to increase the harvesting of Solar, Wind and Wave Power for our energy usages.

Yet another famous quote may be proven wrong. Yes…………….!!!

We may be witnessing the “Second Sun” at least temporarily for some weeks.There may also be no nights during this time frame…

Already the whole world is petrified by the prophecies on 2012. Adding further shudder to the precarious scenarios, this celestial phenomenon is coinciding with 2012.

Two Suns - 2012

The reason for this is due to the gradual death of Betelgeuse, the red super-giant, that is the second biggest star in the Orion constellation with a radius of 5.5 AU is roughly 1,180 times the radius of the Sun—a sphere so huge that it could contain over 2 quadrillion Earths (2.15 × 10¹⁵) or more than 1.6 billion (1.65 × 10⁹) Suns. That is the equivalent of Betelgeuse being a giant football coliseum like Wembley Stadium in London with the Earth a tiny pearl, 1 millimeter in diameter.

Death of a star means, losing its mass due to gravitational collapse. Literally the star is running out of fuel at its core, essential for shinning and being a star and end up in Supernova says Brad Carter, a senior lecturer of physics at the University of Southern Queensland.

A supernova is a stellar explosion that is more energetic and are extremely luminous and cause a burst of radiation that often briefly outshines an entire galaxy, before fading from view over several weeks or months. During this short interval, a supernova can radiate as much energy as the Sun is expected to emit over its entire life span. The explosion expels much or all of a star’s material at a velocity of up to 30,000 km/s (10% of the speed of light), driving a shock wave, into the surrounding interstellar medium. This shock wave sweeps up an expanding shell of gas and dust called a “supernova remnant”.

When Betelgeuse becomes supernova, the explosion and luminosity created, may appear as second sun in the sky until it fades.

This Star Wars scenario could happen by 2012, or it may prolong…..But the coincidence with 2012 makes it curious.

The explosion could also cause a “neutron star” or result in the formation of a “black hole” 1300 light years from the earth.

Usually when a star becomes Supernova, even though it lights up the skies on a visible spectrum it also showers its energy in the form of tiny particles called “Neutrinos” in all directions.Eventually earth and all the living beings will be exposed to these particles, without causing any harm.In fact supernova produce elements that are critical to the life on earth. Most heavy weight elements on Periodic Table  like silver, gold and uranium are formed on earth from these supernovi.

Speculations and Prophecies:

The believers of  ”2012 Armageddon” prophecies by Mayan and Chinese Calendars, are reiterating that this could be the result of prophecy or the end of the world referred as “Apocalypse”.The word “Betelgeuse” derives from a Arabic phrase “yad Al Jauza” meaning the “hand of Al-Jauza” referring to a mysterious woman who controls the order of the universe.

Although scientists believe, this is yet another celestial happening, which is more beneficial and vital to the universe and has no connection to the Apocalypse or Armageddon.

Eventually, we are lucky to witness this celestial happening in our life times.
